Two years and going strong

Eric | August 17th, 2005 | 5:16 am

Angela and I celebrated our anniversary on Tuesday. Two years ago we met for a lunch date that went so well, it ended with dinner that night. We decided to go out to a Japanese restaurant (Fujiya) that we stumbled across a few weeks ago for dinner. Since it is located downtown, I met Angela at the train station and then we took a stroll to the restaurant. It’s a really great place and the food is wonderful. What’s nice, is that if it isn’t crowded or you luck out, you can get a 2 seater booth along the window overlooking the bustling street. We ended up almost sitting where we sat the first time, but on this occasion the place was only a third full. On our first visit it was packed and a long table near us was occupied by a group of about 15 Japanese business men having the time of their lives. It was really quite entertaining.

We ordered a sushi and sashimi boat and a couple of maki rolls. The great thing about Sydney is that the fish here is really fresh. The sushi was like buttah! Here are some pictures of Angela and I enjoying dinner:

And, almost unbelievably, Angela got this enormous maki piece into her tiny little mouth. It was quite entertaining to see the process, and I only wish I had taken a movie rather than just the ‘before’ picture:

Can\'t believe she ate the whole thing...

After dinner, we took a nice long walk home, which is good because I always over do it when I eat Japanese cuisine and I could stand to work off some of it. It’s just so darned good. Technically I do it with Indian food too, but that’s another story. So we took a long walk and then as we got to the apartment we decided to check out the gym and see if we could figure out how to get there from our building without having to cross the common area outside. The way our apartment complex is set up is that we are in the old St. Margaret’s Hospital building, and they have built two other buildings on the same block. They all share the same underground parking area and the gym and pool is located 10 floors down under one of the other buildings. When we found it, the pool look ever so inviting. So, since we were up for a dip, we went back to the apartment, grabbed our swim suits and goggles and went for a swim. The pool is actually a 25 meter 2 lane lap pool. It’s pretty slick and the water is not too cool and not too warm. So we swam for a few minutes, realized how completely out of shape we are, and then moved on to the sauna. It was nice and relaxing ending to a wonderful date. That’s the best thing about our relationship. We still have great dates. Can’t believe it’s been two years, as I think we both feel like we just met and are still carrying on a whirlwind romance. We both find it kinda funny and weird that if you had asked either of us when we met if we would be off to Australia in two years, we would have laughed in your face. Life. It’s nutty.
