As we continued our day out near the harbour, we took an alternative route back towards home. We decided to check out the Christmas Tree in QVB. It’s weird for me to be in a hot climate when Christmas is just around the corner. Angela, being from Florida, is used to it. But I am always struck by the trappings of European iconic Christmas imagry while it is close to 90 degrees out. It seems absurd that to denote Christmas means putting up stencils on the windows with fake snow, showing sleighs and snowmen, while I was wondering if I really should have worn shorts that day. Anyway, we went to check out the famous Christmas Tree in the Queen Victoria Building, that is now a posh shopping location.

The building is three stories tall and they took advantage of this fact when creating this installation. When you walk in the the first floor, all you can see in the center atrium is the bottom of a tree that is completely filling the available space between floors. You can just see the middle of the tree on the second floor, and finally the top of the tree extends well above the third floor landing. It’s pretty neat.
