Mardi Gras, sorta
Eric | March 15th, 2006 | 3:14 pmI know that I am terrible at posting stuff in a timely manner, but here is our Mardi Gras adventure.
Now, as you may or may not be aware, Sydney is home to a fantabulous Mardi Gras celebration that was started by the vibrant gay community and has since exploded in popularity. It is a huge tourism draw and infamous in its style and reputation. So we were glad we live right next to the parade route.
As evening came down upon the city, Angela and I grabbed our trusty digital camera that has been so good to us in the past and hurried down to the parade. Unfortunatey, 500,000 people beat us there. What we saw instead is lots and lots of the back of peoples heads. We heard things that sounded fun and decadent, but we ended up seeing more fashion faux pas than anything else…
The fashion here seems to be to show most, if not all of your
bra straps. Bonus points if it doesn’t color coordinate with the
rest of your outfit
Down on Anzac Hwy. The crowd blocks the view
A shot with the camera held above my head, unfortunately
it was at the same time nothing was happening
We should have been in this building
The Church yard nearby held many other people who could
not see what was going on
Fireworks began to shoot off from behind the Church
Taylor Square shows the throngs of people and the hustle and bustle
Oxford Street while lots was going on. I have no idea what, though
After wandering around a bit trying to find an opening, we gave up and went back home. So much for Mardi Gras in Sydney. Maybe next year…
